Mary was born on May 3rd, 1890. Mary's father was Mervin Allen Simmons and her mother was Mary Virginia Agnew. Her paternal grandparents were Baker Howard Simmons and Teresa Ann Jarboe; her maternal grandparents were John Agnew and Catharine E. Redmond. She had four brothers and seven sisters, named Carroll J., Raymond Allen, Mark Agnew, Peter Paul, Mary H., Kate, Anna Laura, Millicent, Clara Mildred, Theresa A. and Myrene Agnes.
