Thomas was born in 1861 in Diddlebury, Shropshire, England.1 Thomas' father was Mr William Beddoes and his mother was Ms Elizabeth Smith. His paternal grandparents were Mr Edward Beddoes and Ms Mary Downes ; his maternal grandparents were Mr Thomas Smith and Ms Elizabeth Smith. Mr Richard Downes and Ms Mary Downes were his grandparents through his father's adoption. He had two brothers and four sisters, named William, James, Jane, Eliza, Mary and Annie. He was the third oldest of the seven children.-
