Robert Dalton was born on June 4th, 1864 in Milang, South Australia. Robert Dalton's father was Edward (Steele?) Steer and his mother was Ann Dutnall. His paternal grandparents were Edward Steer and Ann Field Dalton. He had four brothers and five sisters, named George, Edward William, Phillip, Fredrick Arthur, Maria, Anna, Catherine, Charlotte and Alice. He had three half-brothers named John Borrett, Erskine and Albert.-
