Nan was born in 1739 and her baptism took place on February 17th, 1739 in Wisborough Green, Sussex.1   Nan's father was Thomas Stear and her mother was Sarah Chiles. She had a brother and two sisters, named Thomas, Sarah and Mary.  She was the second oldest of the four children.
