Mary was born in 1743 and her baptism took place on July 6th, 1743 in Wisborough Green, Sussex.1   Mary's father was Thomas Stear and her mother was Sarah Chiles. She had a brother and two sisters, named Thomas, Sarah and Nan.  She was the second youngest of the four children.
