Mary was born in 1820 and her baptism took place on November 17th, 1822 in Billingshurst Sussex.1  Mary's father was William Steer and her mother was Emily (Imlen). She had three brothers and seven sisters, named Henry, Maurice, James, Caroline, Mary, Eliza, Emily, Ruth, Charlotte and Esther.  She was the youngest of the eleven children.  She died at the age of 27 in 1847.  She was buried on March 7th, 1847 in Petworth.2
