Kate was born in 1864 in Rudgwick, Sussex.1  Kate's father was Thomas Steere and her mother was Elizabeth Holland. She had two brothers and three sisters, named Thomas, William, Ellen, Annie and Mary.  She was the third oldest of the six children.
