Edward was born in 1872 in Earley.1  Edward's father was Edward James Steer and his mother was Harriet.  His paternal grandparents were Thomas Steer and Jane Smith. He had three brothers and a sister, named Arthur, Robert, William and Ethel.  He was the third oldest of the five children.
