David was born in 1785 and his baptism took place on March 29th, 1785 in Petworth.1  David's father was Thomas Steer and his mother was Jane Osborn. He had four brothers and two sisters, named William, Thomas, James, William, Sarah and Jane. He had a half-brother named William.
