David J was born about 1883 in Neath Glamorgan.1   David J's father was Thomas STIER and his mother was Ann STIER. He had a brother and six sisters, named William, Mary J, Ann, Catherine, Selina, Lucy and Emma.  He was the third youngest of the eight children.
