Catherine was born about 1880 in Neath Glamorgan.1   Catherine's father was Thomas STIER and her mother was Ann STIER. She had two brothers and five sisters, named William, David J, Mary J, Ann, Selina, Lucy and Emma.  She was the fourth oldest of the eight children.
