Fleming was born about 1885 in Bathgate, West Lothian.1   Fleming's father was David STEIR and his mother was Jessie STEIR. He had five brothers and two sisters, named John, William, David, James, Robert, Maggie and Marion.  He was the third youngest of the eight children.
