Jane was born about 1864 in Oundle, Northamptonshire.1   Jane's father was William STEERS and her mother was Elizabeth STEERS. She had four brothers and three sisters, named Joseph, Benjamin, George, Charles, Mary, Betsy and Alice.  She was the oldest of the eight children.
