George was born about 1896 in Milton, Kent.1   George's father was Joseph STEERS and his mother was Lucy STEERS. He had two brothers and four sisters, named Joseph, Charles, Amelia, Mary Ann, Lucy and Violet.  He was the youngest of the seven children.
