Alfred was born about 1867 in Milton, Kent.1   Alfred's father was Laurence W STEERS and his mother was Charlotte STEERS. He had two brothers and three sisters, named Frederick, John T, Alice, Charlotte and Elizabeth.  He was the oldest of the six children.
