Ellen was born about 1857 in Sussex.1   Ellen's father was Alfred STEERE and her mother was Emma Tester.  Her paternal grandparents are <Unknown> and <Unknown>; her maternal grandfather is <Unknown> and her maternal grandmother was Elizabeth TESTER. She had a brother and a sister, named James and Emily.  She was the second oldest of the three children.
