William was born in 1763 in Tandridge, Surrey.. William's father was John STEER and his mother was Johanna ARNOLD.  His paternal grandparents were John STEER and Elizabeth FRITH. He had two brothers and three sisters, named George, Thomas, Mary, Ann and Sarah.  He was the oldest of the six children.  He died at the age of 79 in February 1842 in Godstone Surrey.  He was buried on March 1st, 1842 in St Peter, Tandridge, Surrey..1 2
