Philip was born about 1885 in Edinburgh, Midlothian.1   Philip's father was Richard STEER and his mother was Jane STEER. He had five brothers and three sisters, named Geo, Richard, Archd, Harry, Daniel, Janet, Mary and Pauline.  He was the third youngest of the nine children.
