Janet was born about 1872 in Glasgow, Lanarkshire.1   Janet's father was Richard STEER and her mother was Jane STEER. She had six brothers and two sisters, named Geo, Richard, Archd, Philip, Harry, Daniel, Mary and Pauline.  She was the second oldest of the nine children.
