Kate was born about 1878 in Beckenham Kent.1   Kate's father was Arthur STEER and her mother was Selina STEER.  Her paternal grandfather is <Unknown> and her paternal grandmother was Elizabeth STEER. She had two brothers and two sisters, named Alexander, Arthur, Amelia and Annie.  She was the second youngest of the five children.
