John was born about 1891 in Croydon Surrey.1   John's father was Thomas STEER and his mother was Sarah A STEER. He had two brothers and four sisters, named Thomas G, George E, Lizzie, Emily C, Sarah A and Lily E.  He was the second youngest of the seven children.
