Gertrude was born about 1888 in Salisbury, Wiltshire.1   Gertrude's father was Walter STEER and her mother was Alice STEER. She had four brothers and two sisters, named Walter, Ernest, Sidney, William, Alice and Lillie.  She was the fourth oldest of the seven children.
