Egar was born about 1857 in Odiham, Hampshire.1   Egar's father was Henry STEER and his mother was Ellen STEER.  His maternal grandfather is <Unknown> and his maternal grandmother was Patience JAMES. He had three brothers and a sister, named Walter, Edward W, Hunter C and Canay.  He was the second youngest of the five children.
