Edward was born about 1848 in East Hoathley, Sussex.1   Edward's father was Edward STEER and his mother was Sarah Ann STEER. He had three brothers and two sisters, named William H, George J, Walter A, Alice and Sarah Ann.  He was the second oldest of the six children.
