Charles was born about 1897 in Rotherham Yorkshire.1   Charles' father was William STEER and his mother was Mary Maria STEER. He had two brothers and six sisters, named Wilfred, James William, Beatrice, Mary, Doris, Ethel, Ida and STEER.  He was the third oldest of the nine children.
