Bessie was born about 1875 in Midhurst Sussex.1   Bessie's father was Thomas STEER and her mother was Harriett STEER. She had three brothers and two sisters, named George, Charlie, Joseph, Kate and Lydia R.  She was the third youngest of the six children.
