Charles was born about 1880 in Brading, Isle of Wight.1   Charles' father was Thomas STEARS and his mother was Susannah J STEARS. He had a brother and four sisters, named Frank, Elizabeth, Annie, Winifred and Susannah E.  He was the oldest of the six children.
