Arthur was born about 1886 in Mile End, London.1   Arthur's father was Edwin STEARS and his mother was Matilda STEARS. He had three brothers and two sisters, named Alfred, Henry, Edwin, Mary and Elizabeth.  He was the second youngest of the six children.
