Alfred J was born about 1872 in Brading, Isle of Wight.1   Alfred J's father was Thomas STEARS and his mother was Susannah J STEARS.  His maternal grandfather is <Unknown> and his maternal grandmother was Susanna GRIMSEY. He had three brothers named Harold, Douglas and Charles.  He was the second youngest of the four children.
