William C was born about 1878 in Aveton Gifford Devon.1   William C's father was Charles H STEAR and his mother was Sarah G STEAR.  His paternal grandparents were William H STEAR and <Unknown>. He had two brothers and two sisters, named Thomas H, Frederick G, Annie J and Minnie F.  He was the second oldest of the five children.
