Katherine was born about 1894 in Plaistow, Essex.1   Katherine's father was Joseph STEAR and her mother was Eleanor STEAR. She had five brothers and two sisters, named Joseph, Thomas, James, Henry, Frederick, Jane and Ethel.  She was the second youngest of the eight children.
