Jane was born about 1828 in Birmingham Warwickshire.1   Jane's father was William STEAR and her mother was Jane STEAR. She had a brother and four sisters, named Henry, Eliza, Catherine, Elizabeth and Sarah.  She was the third youngest of the six children.
