Jane was born about 1851 in St Nicholas Guild, Surrey.1   Jane's father was David STEER and her mother was Mary Ann STEER. She had two brothers and three sisters, named Hiran John, Benjamin, Harriett, Katherine and Emily.  She was the second youngest of the six children.
