Benjamin was born about 1847 in Pallisham, Bedfordshire.1   Benjamin's father was David STEER and his mother was Mary Ann STEER. He had a brother and four sisters, named Hiran John, Harriett, Katherine, Jane and Emily.  He was the second oldest of the six children.
