Edith was born in 1848 and her baptism took place on January 7th, 1849 in Hartburn Northumberland.1 2  Edith's father was Henry Richard Ridley and her mother was Georgiana Augusta Frederica Bradford.  Her maternal grandparents were Sir Thomas Bradford and Mary Ann Atkinson. She had four sisters named Mabel, Maude, Bertha and Mildred.  She was the oldest of the five children.
