William was born on April 5th, 1776 and his baptism took place on January 6th, 1780 in Saint James Garlickhithe, London.1  William's father was William Goad and his mother was Darling Thomas.  His paternal grandparents were Benjamin Goad and Mary Skirrow; his maternal grandparents were John Thomas and Elizabeth Ebbery. He had four brothers and three sisters, named Samuel, Benjamin, John, George, Mary, Emma and Anna.  He was the oldest of the eight children.  He died at the age of 87 on December 17th, 1863 in Hackbridge, Carshalton, Surrey.2
