Mary was born on August 23rd, 1891 in Simla, India and her baptism took place there on September 26th, 1891.1 2  Mary's father was Horatio Boileau Goad and her mother was Bessie Berkeley.  Her paternal grandparents were Samuel Boileau Goad and Emma Gordon Davidson. She had three brothers and three sisters, named Reginald, Edward, Frederick, Bessie, Agnes and Annie.  She was the third youngest of the seven children. She had three half-brothers and two half-sisters, named Lockhart, William, Horace, Harriet and Gertrude.
