Emily was born in 1847 in Petworth and her baptism took place on March 7th, 1847 in Petworth, Sussex.1  Emily's father was James Whitcombe and her mother was Mary Ann.  Her paternal grandparents were George Whitcomb and Charlotte Warden. She had four brothers and a sister, named James, Alfred, Edwin, Ambrose and Mary.  She was the third youngest of the six children.  She died at the age of 43 in 1890 in Petworth, Sussex.
