George was born in 1850 in Marple, Cheshire.1  George's father was William Waterhouse and his mother was Sarah Walker.  His paternal grandparents were Joseph Waterhouse and Leah Torner. He had three brothers and a sister, named John, Washington, Thomas and Leah.  He was the youngest of the five children.
