Mary's father was Henry Saunders and her mother was Anne.  Her paternal grandparents were Charles Saunders and Anne Burnhams. She had three brothers and four sisters, named William, Charles, John, Caroline, Sarah, Martha and Jane.  She was the fourth youngest of the eight children.
