John's father was Henry Saunders and his mother was Anne.  His paternal grandparents were Charles Saunders and Anne Burnhams. He had two brothers and five sisters, named William, Charles, Caroline, Sarah, Mary, Martha and Jane.  He was the third youngest of the eight children.  He died at the age of 1 in March 1837.  He was buried on March 19th, 1837.
