Edward's father was Thomas Pinder and his mother was Edith Bourne.  His paternal grandparents were Joseph Pinder and Susanna Shadford (of Scotter); his maternal grandparents were William Bourne (of Eastwood) and Edith Dawes. He had a brother and four sisters, named Thomas, Sarah, Mary, Susanna and Annie.  He was the third youngest of the six children.
