william was born before 1836 and his baptism took place on February 3rd, 1836 in St. Andrew's, Holborn, Middlesex. William's father was John Letts and his mother was Eliza. He had three brothers and three sisters, named John, Henry, Robert, Eliza, Sophia and Ann. He was the third youngest of the seven children.
