Mary's father was William Letts and her mother was Mary Best.  Her paternal grandparents were Will Letts and Ann Blanchard; her maternal grandparents were William Best and Mary. She had five brothers and three sisters, and also a sibling of unknown gender, named William, John, Edward, Richard, Michael, Amy, Fanny, Sarah and Letts.

‌Mary and Benjamin were married in a religious ceremony on January 24th, 1781 in Coulsdon, Surrey witnessed by Wm Brooke, * mark of Tho Weston.²
