John's father was Will Letts and his mother was Ann Blanchard.  His paternal grandparents were Thomas Letts and Allice. He had two brothers and two sisters, named Richard, William, Mary and Elisabeth.  He was the oldest of the five children.  He died at the age of 16 in 1734.  He was buried on November 1st, 1734 in Coulsdon, Surrey.²
