Sarah was born before 1736 and her baptism took place on April 26th, 1736 in Aylesbeare. Sarah's father was William Hitt (Aylesbeare) and her mother was Melony Sanders.  Her paternal grandparents were William Hitt (Clyst Hydon) and Dorothy White (Feniton). She had two brothers named John and William.  She was the oldest of the three children.
