Mary was born in 1809 and her baptism took place on January 22nd, 1809 in Chipping Barnet.1  Mary's father was James Distill and her mother was Ann Beach.  Her paternal grandparents were Henry Distill and <Unknown>; her maternal grandparents were Thomas Beach and Catharine Borkett. She had two brothers and five sisters, named James, Henry, Sarah, Elizabeth, Jane, Susannah and Charlotte.  She was the oldest of the eight children.
