Marie's father was Robert Darney and her mother was Elinor (Elene Eline Helene) Durswell. She had a brother and three sisters, named Thomas, Elisabethe, Johane and Catherine.  She was the third oldest of the five children. She had a half-brother and two half-sisters, named Arthur, Sarah and Rebecca.
