"Mrs G. Hempenstall Dies Suddenly.
Widespread regret was expressed in Mt Morgan yesterday at the sudden death of Mrs Margaret Hempenstall wife of Mr G. W. Hempenstall, well-known resident and businessman of the town. She was held in high esteem by the community. 
Mr and Mrs Hempenstall were driving in their car to lunch when she complained of being ill. He stopped the car and was taking his wife into his office when she collapsed in his arms and died. She had not been in good health for some time.
Mrs Hempenstall is survived by her husband, two sons and a daughter. Another son died while serving with the RAAF. "

"Mr Kevin Lawrence Hempenstall died on Saturday in the Mt Morgan hospital after a short illness.
His death will be felt deeply by relatives and a large number of friends. His father, Mr G. W. Hempenstall, is at present on a health holiday trip to England.
For some years past Mr Hempenstall was a member of the working staff of Mt Morgan Ltd, and was at all times a keen supporter of any movement concerned with the progress and advancement of Mt Morgan, the town of his birth. He was a past president of the Hibernian Society, an active member and honorary secretary to the Tennis Association and hon. secretary also to the Miners' Phthisis Health Committee. He was held in high esteem by all who knew him. 
His sister, Cecily, now Mrs James Healy of Proserpine, and his brother Reg, of Childers, were with him at the time of his death."

"MIDAIR COLLISION WAS ACCIDENTAL: TWO PLANES AMOK
After inquiring into the circumstances surrounding the deaths of Terence John Hempenstall and Thomas Desmond Berndt, two young RAAF airmen who were killed when two aircraft collided in mid air, the Narromine coroner (Mr. W. R. Payten) returned a verdict of accidental death. 
The accident occurred on a western airdrome on December 23. A medical officer told the court that he was called to the scene and found that Hempenstall had died instantly as the result of a fractured skull and haemorrhage of the brain. The body of Berndt was still in his plane and he had been burned. Berndt had sustained a fractured skull also.
SAW PLANES CRASHING
Bruce Robert Bremmer, grazier of "Koitaki," Eumungerie, said he was in   company with Mr. F. J. C. Bennett at his property, 'Killowen,' Narromine, and looked round in time to see a plane falling to earth. Almost imme- diately another machine came down after it. Both were falling vertically and one burst into flames.
Tlie machines crashed a mile away, and when he arrived at the scene he   could see the charred remains of a man in the cockpit of one aircraft. About 40 feet from the second machine lay an airman with a partly opened parachute. The man appeared to be dead.
CLOSE, OUT OF CONTROL
Flying/Officer L. L. MacPherson said he observed two planes close together at about 1000 feet, both being out of control. He did not see them collide, but the facts suggested to him that there had been a collision. Other evidence given was that both men were trainee pilots and on practice flights at the time of the accident.
The coroner returned a verdict of accidental death."
