Florence was born on January 6th, 1905 in Birkenhead and her baptism took place on January 25th, 1905 at St. John (Birkenhead).1 2  Florence's father was Arthur Yates and her mother was Margaret Norah Mortimer.  Her maternal grandparents were Anthony Mortimer and <Unknown>. She had two sisters named Nellie and Dorothy.  She was the second oldest of the three children. She had a half-brother, and also a half-sibling of unknown gender named Roland and <child>.
